About Schizophrenia

Schizophrenia is one of the most complex of all mental disorders; it is very severe, disabling disturbance of the brain.  Approximately one percent of Americans suffer from this illness.

Schizophrenia affects both men and women but it often appears earlier in men.  They usually suffer from terrifying symptoms such as hearing internal voices not heard by others, or believing that other people are reading their minds, controlling their thoughts, or plotting to harm them.  It has been estimated that no more than one in five individuals recovers completely.
